How We Inspect Every Unit

Buying a used electric motor shouldn't feel like a gamble. The problem with classifieds and private sales is that you're trusting someone's word about battery health, hours of use, and whether the thing actually works properly under load.

We take a different approach. Every unit that comes through our Scarborough service center goes through the same multi-step inspection our technicians use for warranty work and conversion projects. If it doesn't meet our standard, it doesn't make the listing.

Replaced parts, cosmetic wear, and any limitations are noted upfront. You'll know exactly what you're buying before you spend a dollar.

Step 1 – Visual & mechanical inspection

Housing condition, shaft play, prop wear, corrosion. We photograph everything before and after. Any cosmetic damage is documented upfront — no surprises in the listing.

Step 2 – Battery health testing

Cell-level voltage balance, capacity under load, internal resistance, BMS communication check. If a LiFePO4 battery falls below 80% of original capacity, we recondition it or pull it from sale. The listing shows actual remaining capacity as a percentage.

Step 3 – Electronics & controller check

Firmware version, error log review, throttle response, display function. We update firmware where newer versions are available. If the error log shows a history of overheating or overcurrent faults, that's disclosed.

Step 4 – Water test

Where applicable, every motor runs on the water. Performance under load tells you what a bench test can't. We note thrust consistency, noise levels, and runtime at typical speeds.

Step 5 – Condition report & listing

Real photos, honest condition notes, test results, and pricing based on what we actually found. Each listing includes the motor's age, estimated hours, replaced parts, and any known limitations.

M-Oceans Warranty on Every Pre-Owned Unit

Unlike buying from a classified ad or a private seller, every motor and battery in this collection carries an M-Oceans service warranty. If something goes wrong within the warranty period, bring it to our Scarborough service center. We'll make it right — same team, same tools, same standards we use for new equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What brands do you accept for trade-in/buyback?

We accept most major electric marine brands – ePropulsion, Torqeedo, Elco, TEMO, Aquamot, Oceanvolt, and others. That includes outboards, inboards, pod drives, and LiFePO4 battery packs. If your motor or battery isn't from a brand we typically carry, reach out anyway; we evaluate on a case-by-case basis depending on condition, market demand, and whether we can properly service and certify the unit before resale. Gas outboards and watercraft are not part of the buyback program at this time

What warranty do pre-owned units come with?

Every motor and battery carries an M-Oceans service warranty. Duration depends on the unit's age and condition — typically 3 to 6 months. Warranty covers defects and failures, not cosmetic wear or accidental damage. If something goes wrong, bring it to ourScarborough service center and we'll handle it.

How do you determine battery health?

We run cell-level diagnostics on every LiFePO4 battery — checking voltage balance, internal resistance, and capacity under load. The listing shows actual remaining capacity as a percentage. If a battery falls below 80% of original capacity, we either recondition it or remove it from sale.

Do you ship pre-owned equipment across Canada?

Yes. We ship motors and batteries Canada-wide with proper marine equipment packaging. Shipping cost depends on weight and destination — we'll quote it before you commit. Local GTA pickup from our Scarborough location is always free.

Can I see the unit in person before buying?

Absolutely. Visit us at 2220 Midland Ave, Unit #22, Scarborough. We'll walk you through the condition report, show you the battery diagnostics, and answer any questions. Bring your boat specs — we'll confirm compatibility while you're here.

What if I want to return a pre-owned unit?

Pre-owned equipment is sold as-inspected, so standard returns don't apply the same way as new products. However, if the unit fails to perform as described in the condition report within the warranty period, we'll repair or replace it. Reach out within 48 hours of receiving the unit if something doesn't match the listing.

Do you accept trade-ins toward new equipment?

Yes — and trade-in values are typically higher than cash buyback because we keep the transaction in-house. Your trade-in credit applies to anything in our inventory: electric outboards, batteries, or complete conversion systems.
