Safety Notice & Safe Use Policy

At M-Oceans, your safety and well-being are our top priority.
We want every customer to enjoy the outdoors—whether on the water, the road, or in nature—while staying safe, prepared, and compliant with applicable safety standards.
Please read and follow the guidelines below carefully before using any M-Oceans products, vessels, or equipment.

1. COMPLIANCE WITH SAFETY REGULATIONS

All customers and operators must comply with Transport Canada’s regulations and any other applicable local, provincial, or federal laws.

  • Always carry the required safety equipment, such as lifejackets, fire extinguishers, navigation lights, and signaling devices.

  • Operators of motorized vessels must possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) or approved proof of competency where required.

  • Ensure your vessel or equipment is properly licensed, registered, and maintained in accordance with Canadian law.

2. LIFEJACKETS & SAFETY EQUIPMENT

  • A Canadian-approved lifejacket or personal flotation device (PFD) must be available for each person on board.

  • Always wear your lifejacket while underway—most water-related fatalities occur because lifejackets were not worn.

  • Ensure that children and non-swimmers wear properly fitted flotation devices at all times.

3. EQUIPMENT USE & MAINTENANCE

  • Always read and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions before use.

  • Use the engine cut-off switch (kill switch lanyard) when operating powered equipment or boats.

  • Never run engines in enclosed areas without proper ventilation—carbon monoxide is deadly.

  • Inspect your vessel, equipment, and fuel systems before each outing. Replace worn or damaged parts promptly.

4. RESPONSIBLE OPERATION

  • Never operate any equipment or vessel under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or impairing medication.

  • Operate at safe speeds and remain aware of surroundings, swimmers, and navigation hazards.

  • Observe no-wake zones, speed limits, and all posted rules on local waterways or outdoor areas.

  • Monitor weather conditions before and during your trip. Avoid operating during storms or unsafe conditions.

5. PASSENGER & LOAD SAFETY

  • Never exceed your vessel’s maximum capacity or manufacturer’s recommended weight limits.

  • Ensure all passengers remain seated and balanced while underway.

  • Store fuel and flammable materials securely, away from heat sources or electrical sparks.

6. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

  • File a float plan or travel plan with someone on shore before departing, especially for long trips.

  • Carry emergency essentials, including a first aid kit, spare fuel, tools, and signaling devices.

  • Know how to use distress signals, flares, and communication tools (e.g., VHF radio or mobile phone).

  • Practice man-overboard recovery and other emergency procedures with passengers or crew.

7. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Dispose of all waste properly. Never discharge fuel, oil, or garbage into waterways or nature.

  • Respect wildlife, nesting areas, and marine protected zones.

  • Reduce noise and wake near docks, cottages, and environmentally sensitive areas.
