Which ePropulsion Battery Family Do You Need?

Four families cover the range, and they are not interchangeable. A Spirit pack will not run a Navy, and a G-Series bank will not fit anything under 10 kW.

Spirit batteries: portable packs for tiller and remote outboards

Built to be carried, swapped and stored indoors between trips. The Spirit Battery Plus holds 1,276 Wh and weighs 8.7 kg, which is the standard pack behind the Spirit 1.0 range. The newer Spirit Battery Ultra steps up to 1,539 Wh, roughly twenty percent more capacity for about four pounds more weight, and it is the pack that runs the Spirit 2.

E-Series: 48V banks for mid-range outboards

Fixed installations for boats that need hours rather than a session. The E60 carries 3,072 Wh, and the E163 carries 8,345 Wh, both at a 51.2 V nominal, 48 V class.

G-Series: 102 V banks for high-output motors

The energy behind ePropulsion’s largest systems. The G102-100 stores 10.24 kWh and the G102-230 stores 23.55 kWh, both at 102.4 V, and they power the 10 kW to 40 kW motors, including the X-Series outboards and I-Series inboards. G-Series packs connect in parallel only, never in series, and installation belongs with a qualified marine electrician.

kMax 48V: modular packs for kayak propulsion

The newest format, and the only one designed to be added to rather than replaced. Each kMax battery holds 1,024 Wh at 11 kg, carries an IP67 rating and charges in about two hours. Up to four run in parallel for 4,096 Wh, which lets a kayak angler carry one pack for an afternoon and four for a tournament day. Expected spring 2027.


Runtime, Charging and Winter Storage in Canada

Capacity in watt-hours divided by the power you actually draw gives you a workable runtime estimate. A 1,276 Wh Spirit pack feeding a 1 kW motor at full throttle lasts a little over an hour; the same pack at 400 W runs closer to three. Most owners spend far less time at wide open than they expect, which is why the honest answer to “how far will it go” starts with how you cruise rather than what the label says.

Charging follows the same logic. Small integrated packs top up in two to four hours from a standard outlet, while the large E and G banks are overnight propositions. G-Series packs are designed around their own charging equipment and their BMS expects it, so this is not a place to improvise with a generic charger.

Then there is the part that matters in Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Lithium iron phosphate discharges happily in the cold but should not be charged below freezing, and a season in an unheated boathouse at full charge is the fastest way to lose capacity you paid for. Pull removable packs at haul-out, bring them indoors, and store them at roughly half charge rather than full. Come spring, the pack will still hold what it held in October. Fixed banks that cannot come out need the same thinking applied through insulation, a heated space or a battery with self-heating built in.

What do ePropulsion battery model numbers mean?

The number is the amp-hour rating. An E60 is 60 amp-hours at 51.2 volts, which works out to 3,072 Wh; an E163 is 163 amp-hours, or 8,345 Wh. The G-Series carries two numbers: the first is the voltage class and the second is again amp-hours, so a G102-230 is 230 amp-hours at 102.4 volts, or 23,552 Wh. Once you know the convention, you can size any model in the range from its name alone.

Can I use a third-party battery with an ePropulsion motor?

ePropulsion systems are built around packs that communicate with the motor and share data with the display, and the battery management system expects a matched partner. Substituting a generic lithium pack typically costs you the state-of-charge readout, the range estimate and the protection logic, and it can affect warranty coverage. If you are building a system around non-ePropulsion batteries, talk to us first about what the motor will and will not accept.

How much does an ePropulsion battery cost in Canada?

Portable Spirit packs start around $1,750 CAD. Mid-range E-Series banks run from roughly $3,000 to $6,000 CAD, and the large G-Series banks range from about $8,500 to $16,700 CAD depending on capacity. Current pricing for every pack is shown in the product grid above.

How many charge cycles will an ePropulsion battery last?

The large banks are rated for 3,000 cycles at 80 percent depth of discharge, and the G102-230 for 3,500. In practical terms, a recreational owner charging a couple of times a week will not approach those numbers within the life of the boat.

Can ePropulsion batteries be connected in parallel?

Yes, within each family. G-Series packs are parallel-only and must never be wired in series. kMax packs are designed to run up to four in parallel.
