Slatted, aluminum, or air deck on a 10 ft boat

Floor type changes this boat more than any other spec.

Slatted floors are lightest and cheapest – wooden slats across the tubes, no rigid deck, one person can move the whole thing. You won't stand up in one. The GALA Sprinter S300 sits here.

Rigid floorboards lock into a deck you can stand and cast from. Assembly runs ten to fifteen minutes and the panels add real weight, but the boat is noticeably steadier once the water turns rough. The Freestyle F300 lets you take either floor on the same hull – solid aluminum floorboards or a high-pressure air deck. Same tubes, same keel. The difference shows up as 13 kg in the bag: 55 kg with boards against 42 kg with the air deck.

Matching an outboard to a 10 ft hull

Most models here recommend 10 hp and cap at 15. A 9.9 will plane a lightly loaded 3 m hull, and a 6 hp pushes it along at displacement speed all day on a fraction of the fuel. Check shaft length before you buy – the F300's transom is built for a 15-inch short shaft, which is standard at this size.

Electric makes more sense here than at any other size. A 10 ft boat is light enough that a 3 hp-equivalent motor genuinely covers lake work, and the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus is the usual pairing. The Spirit 2.0 gives you more thrust and a larger battery when the boat is full or the current is against you. On the gas side, a Tohatsu 9.8 is the standard match.

Power choice carries a paperwork consequence in Canada. Transport Canada requires a Pleasure Craft Licence once the engine reaches 10 hp (7.5 kW), so a 9.9 or any of the electric options above keeps a 10 ft boat out of licensing entirely. The Pleasure Craft Operator Card is a separate requirement and you need one regardless of motor size.

Running a 10 ft boat as a tender

A 10 ft dinghy is about the largest tender most cruisers will carry, and roughly the largest that still deflates into a cockpit locker instead of living on davits.
